Our original mandate was stated as “Cholesterol, the tie that binds men together” and we have been binding now and gathering to enjoy each other’s company for approximately 10 years! It is a time meant for fellowship only, well, mainly anyway and we have enjoyed the company, not only of members from Holy Cross, but other local congregations as well, mainly St Timothy's Anglican Church who have been adding to our gatherings almost from the beginning.
We meet on the 3rd Saturday from September through May (except for Dec when we break to allow for Christmas preparations), starting at 8:30am and lasting approximately 1 ½ hours. Our average attendance is 15 to 20 each month. Our program consists of visiting with each other over a cup of coffee, then a fabulous breakfast, and if available a guest speaker, usually someone from our congregations who has something they want to tell us about, could be a trip, a hobby, their occupations, or just about anything they have the nerve to stand up and talk about. We’ve enjoyed trips to several countries, learned how to do home repairs, build guitars etc, and, when no speaker available, we talk some more.
Our structure is that we have no real structured “committee” setup, one of us phones, about mid-week of the breakfast, people who have expressed an interest in coming out when they can so we can get a count for the “chef”, one of us looks after contacting individuals who he thinks might have something to tell us, another shows up early to help with the setup of tables etc.
It is our hope that this group can continues to be something positive by allowing each of us to get to know each other a little better!
